Earth Day is a time to give Mother Earth a big hug and thank her for providing a hospitable place to live. Besides planting trees and recycling, you can also celebrate by upgrading your athletic kicks to a more sustainable basketball shoe.
We’re talking about the Nike Cosmic Unity. Made from at least 25% recycled material by weight, the men’s Cosmic Unity launches in an “Apricot Agate” colorway on April 24.
Channel some serious festival season vibes with this unique Nike basketball shoe that features a muted pink upper covered in a fine web mesh design. Along the side, a marbled Black Swoosh contrasts sharply against the light-colored backdrop. On the shoe’s tongue, a sewn-on patch depicts an apricot hanging off a tree branch.
In the speckled gray and white midsole, you’ll find a recycled Air Zoom Strobel unit that serves as a reminder that you are doing your part to help the environment. Not to mention, it also provides great energy return for all your in-game action.
If that’s not enough for your eco-conscience, the sustainably-made sneaker’s laces are composed of 99% recycled content, and the sockliner is also made of recycled polyester to offer a mix of sustainability and durability. Beneath it all, a Lime Glow outsole provides a shock of color that helps the otherwise muted palette pop.
Nike is making a big push toward zero carbon and zero waste with its Move to Zero series. Even during the brainstorming process, designers were careful to be as eco-friendly as possible by making only digital sketches and limiting the number of sample requests.
Bennett Shaw, the Product Line Manager for the Cosmic Unity line, thinks the shoe is a step in the right direction and proof that Nike can get better year after year when it comes to being sustainable.
