While Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant has been battling injuries this season, the 14th iteration in his signature Nike KD basketball shoe refuses to ride the bench. The debut Nike KD 14 recently hit stores and is now being released in two new colorways. Starting May 1, you can snag the Black/White/Melon Tint and White/Black/Wolf Grey/Melon Tint variants in men’s sizes online or in-stores at Hibbett | City Gear.

As a nod to its predecessors, the KD 14 borrows some design cues from earlier hits in the KD lineup. First and foremost, you’ll notice the return of a midfoot strap — an element also present in the KD 4 and KD 7. This strap keeps your foot locked down inside the shoe for superior security. Interestingly, the design of this strap was inspired by the curve of the grim reaper’s scythe. Connected to the strap is a cage inspired by Nike’s Air Presto on each sneaker’s medial panel.

Naturally, KD was excited about the inclusion of the strap, but his other favorite part of the shoe is its innovative cushioning: a full-length Zoom Air Strobel unit that offers a low-to-the-ground feel without sacrificing energy return. Because it’s stitched right to the upper, the Air unit eliminates unnecessary weight, so your feet feel light and comfortable all game long.

The mesh upper offers an artsy vibe with multiple layers o what looks like animal print black suede layered over an orangey, almost zebra-print base layer. Underfoot, engineered traction gives you a multidirectional grip as you blast around the hardwood. And as a cool touch, when you put both the shoes together, the outsoles form the shape of a skull — another nod to KD’s soul-crushing on-court powers.

Durant debuted his shoes in a game against the Lakers on April 10 and put up an impressive 22-point performance. While there’s no guarantee you’ll do just as well in your pickup game with friends, you’ll certainly look baller as you give it your best.
