Over the centuries, the all-seeing eye has shown up in collegiate logos, religious iconography and even the American dollar bill. Also called “the Eye of Providence,” this recognizable symbol also makes a splash in many of the Kyrie Irving sneaker designs — sometimes subtly, often less so.
Well this February, the big, bold “All-Seeing Eye” is back with the newest colorway from the Kyrie 7 line. The “Midnight Navy” Lagoon Pulse, pink and bright neon green Kyrie 7 launches in men’s sizes on February 19.
Nike’s Benjamin Nethongkome created the Kyrie 7 for quick changes, incredible speed and exceptional agility. Midnight Navy composite mesh swaths the shoe’s upper, with a navy gradient that transforms into a peachy coral tone as it creeps toward the toe. A black, partially filled-in Swoosh rests on the lateral side with an embossed outline of the branding on the medial. Navy TPU fingers help anchor the lacing system, effectively locking down the foot.
The basketball sneaker’s padded throat and tongue come in a more tightly woven navy mesh, while the sockliner gets luxe, coral-colored padding. The most striking detail of this iteration of the Brooklyn Nets player’s signature shoe is its bright neon green outsole that wraps around the shoe’s sides. With a 360-degree, data-informed traction pattern, the outsole gives players from novice to pro-level experience the ability to perform precise moves on and off the hardwood, aided by a curved Zoom Air unit in the forefoot.
The heel of the Midnight Navy/Lagoon Pulse Kyrie features a second standout design element: a pair of eyes stitched in coral and surrounded by embroidered rays emanating from the focal point. While the All-Seeing Eye’s traditional triangle is missing from this area of the colorway (though not completely missing as you can catch a glimpse of it subtly located at the bottom of the lacing system), Kyrie’s challenge for wearers to “seek their answers,” is clear.
