Dee Brown’s 1991 NBA Slam Dunk Contest performance turns the big 3-0 this year. It was a competition Brown dominated with a no-look dunk that rocked the basketball world. Naturally, the shoes he was wearing during that infamous performance — the Reebok Pump Omni Zone II — became an instant hit after the camera panned to Brown pumping up his shoes before dunking. To celebrate all this moment in Reebok footwear and NBA history, Reebok is releasing several Pump Omni commemorative colorways, like the “Dee Brown” edition that launched in March of this year.
But a moment in time only turns 30 once, so the party continues this spring with another release of the shoe that carried Brown to the history books. On May 21, unwrap a Footwear White, Wild Orange and black variant of the Pump Omni Zone II sneaker, a colorway last seen back in 2014. This inverse of Dee Brown’s dunk-made-famous kicks will be available exclusively in men’s sizes.
Unlike the primarily black “Dee Brown” colorway, this launch shoe features a mostly Footwear White upper. Black detailing adorns the middle, outsole and midsole, while pops of Wild Orange stand out along the lace guard and tongue. Also popping are the black mesh cutouts along the ankle, heel, middle and lacing system.
Not to be missed is the sneaker’s classic “The Pump” logo on the tongue. All you have to do is press here to inflate or deflate the shoe’s corduroy inner lining, meaning you can find a custom fit that will help you soar to new heights on the court. It’s a truly ’90s gimmick that feels fun and retro in the modern scheme of things.
You won’t easily forget about the Hexalite cushioning in the midsole that provides cushioning with every step, likely because it’s mentioned in black and orange along the heel. There’s also a curvy TPU cage that cradles your foot for stability as you blaze your way toward basketball greatness.
Being stuck in the middle with this mid-cut silhouette won’t be so bad, as it offers just the right amount of flexibility and support. Pick up the Footwear White, Wild Orange and black colorway of Reebok Pump Omni Zone II on May 21 in men’s sizes online and in stores at Hibbett | City Gear.
