“Wow! You can really dance!” When you’re not learning those TikTok dances, you’re probably watching your fave reality dancing shows, aren’t you? “Dancing with the Stars,” “So You Think You Can Dance,” “America’s Got Talent,” “Masked Dancer” — those dancers and their partners have some serious moves.
At Hibbett | City Gear, we’re here to fete our favorite reality TV dancers … and all you IRL dancers, too, whether ballet, hip-hop, ballroom … or the “Renegade” dance is your thing. So on September 19, bust a move, do a twirl, or master the cha-cha-cha to celebrate National Dance Day! Here are some of our all-time fave performers:
This superstar (along with sis Juliane) has been dancing forever. Check out Derek’s moves in previous seasons of DWTS, as well as his work on “The World of Dance.” And if you weren’t watching the Disney+ singalong special at the beginning of quarantine, grab the fam and catch Derek (aka “The Beast) with his Belle counterpart Hayley Erbert perform “Be Our Guest.”
He’s been Ellen’s sidekick, appeared in Will Ferrell’s “Blades of Glory” and frequently starred in “So You Think You Can Dance” specials. Stephen Boss got his “tWitch” nickname from his inability to sit still. This dance phenom frequently teams up with wife Allison to show off some sweet rhythm.
She was born for dancing. Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson was not only one of the youngest DWTS competitors, the gold medalist proved she was a natural by helping Mark Ballas snag mirrorball trophies back in ’07, with masterful tangos, quick steps and Paso dobles.
The Hiplet Ballerinas are breaking out of quarantine with a 2022 tour of their hip-hop ballet repertoire. Based in Chicago, the company includes Nia Parker, Alexandria Franklin, Camryn Taylor, Trevon Lawrence, Allison Harsh, Taylor Edwards, Nia Towe, Brandy Ford, Taraja Echols and Kris Bellvie. This exceptionally talented group of dancers wowed even dour-faced Simon Cowell on “America’s Got Talent.”
He stunted on the gridiron for the Raiders, the Giants and the Jaguars, but the now-retired running back also won season 24’s “Dancing with the Stars” competition — and got invited back a few times — to show off that fancy waltz and rumba footwork.
The controversial “Golden Boy of Boxing” has gold medals under his belt and is now a mixed martial arts and boxing promoter, but did you catch his stint on “Masked Dancer”? Disguised as a zebra, de la Hoya twirled across stage to a Jason Derulo tune on the arm of an exotic bird. Bill Nye wasn’t half bad, either!
They first made their name on YouTube with their acrobatics, but the twinning Aussies Sam and Teagan are no strangers to the dance world, either. Their body-bending routines have appeared on “Australia’s Got Talent,” and they’re must-follows on TikTok and YouTube.
On September 19, Hibbett | City Gear commemorates the sport of dance. Queue up a Spotify playlist and get your body moving!
