Michael Jordan made history when he put up a 63-point performance against the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 1986 NBA playoffs. That record still stands today as the most points ever scored in a playoff game, which is perhaps why we’re still celebrating with Celtics-inspired versions of the Air Jordan 1.
The Jordan 1 High OG “Lucky Green” basketball shoe is one of MJ’s most popular kicks. This particular drop has been teased since last fall, and it looks to be finally hitting stores in men’s, grade school kids’, preschool kids’ and toddler kids’ sizes on April 15. The OG version of the shoe features hearty doses of Lucky Green, black and white leather in the remastered AJ1 silhouette, making it the closest thing you’ll see to an original pair.
This Peter Moore design includes a white leather base with black overlays wrapping the toe, collar and eyestays. There’s also the classic black Swoosh across the middle of each side.
A Lucky Green tumbled leather ankle overlay features the original Air Jordan Wings on the lateral side — inspired by how MJ takes flight on the court. There’s another green overlay at the heel, but in smooth leather instead. Green laces strap over the black tongue, which also includes green Nike Air branding. The black insole has similar green branding.
The solid white midsole is stitched into place with white thread, while the green rubber outsole features the typical pivot circle traction patterns that helped the Black Cat zip and zoom around opponents.
You wouldn’t wear the AJ1s on the court today — instead, they’re a must for your street style. They look best with straight-cut or rolled-up jeans, along with crew socks to protect your ankles from the high collar. Throw on a black or matching green tee, and you’ll look like you belong right alongside the best of them.
His Airness may have lost that fateful game against the Celtics, but his valiant effort will always be remembered thanks to the Jordan 1 High OG “Lucky Green.” Embrace the luck of the Irish when you grab these shoes on April 15 in men’s, grade school kids’, preschool kids’ and toddler kids’ sizes, online or at your local Hibbett | City Gear. This style is sure to sell out, so if you weren’t fast enough to snag a pair, we recommend following our sneaker launch calendar so you can be more prepared next time.
