It’s time to start thinking about back-to-school shopping, and what better way to prepare your kid for the school year than with a new pair of kicks? Since the Nike Air Max 2021 just dropped this summer, it will be the talk of the hallway.

Luckily, your kid doesn’t have to feel left out. A fun new colorway of the Air Max 2021 is hitting stores in grade school kids’ sizes on August 19, just in time to snag a pair before class starts. This black, white and gray colorway keeps things neutral enough that your kid can wear it with all their favorite outfits.

With its mesh upper, visible Air unit and collapsible TPU cage, this shoe looks like something from the future—and that’s because it is. Nike went all out when designing this silhouette, making sure to use at least 20% recycled content by weight to keep things eco-friendly. There’s little left of its OG retro form.

Black dots line the toe box, standing out on the solid gray upper. A large white Swoosh overtakes the outer middle, while the inner middle has a black half-circle overlay with the words “Nike Air Max” printed. Color-contrast stitching along the lace guard keeps the panel securely in place, while black tabs on the heel and tongue make slipping this shoe on and off a breeze.

Moving downward, you’ll see a large midsole that’s white at the front and a translucent gray at the heel. Under the heel is the massive Air unit—visible through an eight-shaped cutout. You’ll also see hollow space inside, which makes it look like you’re walking on air. These shoes have a very innovative, modern feel, so fashion-forward kids will love wearing them in unique combos. For example, they’d look great with joggers and a T-shirt, but they’d look equally great with shorts or leggings.
