The Nike Air Max Pre-Day men’s shoe drops 12/1 in “Cedar/Pollen/Dark Pony” and “Smoke Grey/Moon Fossil/White” colorways.

Nike knows the OG Air Max line is a bit outdated. While it’s still a style icon for sneakerheads everywhere, it doesn’t hold a candle to modern-day releases. Perhaps that’s what inspired Nike with this new release.

The Nike Air Max Pre-Day is the ultimate amalgam of new and old. It takes all your favorite parts of the retro Air Max series — like the exposed Air unit and retro Swoosh — and combines them with modern touches, like an updated rubber Waffle sole and new recycled materials.

If you like the sound of this new hybrid, you’re in luck — Nike is dropping two new colorways for you to enjoy. The Smoke Grey, Moon Fossil and white variant keeps things mostly monochromatic for a more subtle look, while the Cedar, Pollen and Dark Pony sneaker uses dark reds to make a bold statement.

Both shoes have a bit of a patchwork feel with various overlays on the upper, but the Smoke Grey Air Max Pre-Day keeps these all in grey tones. Darker grey patches cover the toe, heel, laces and midfoot, while a warm grey Swoosh flows from the middle to the heel. Bright white laces and a chunky white midsole keep the shoe from looking too melancholy. Underfoot, the black outsole gives way to a translucent Air unit in the heel.

The Cedar colorway steps outside the monochromatic life for a much more colorful design. The upper is primarily red, with darker maroon patches at the toe and midfoot. The laces and heel are an even darker red bordering on brown, while the middle Swoosh is a startling bright gold. Black laces and a checkered tongue provide more accents, as does the white midsole and black outsole.

While they’re both different vibes, these two sneakers are pretty classic in their conception. That’s why they’d look best with traditional streetwear. Even though you probably won’t be balling with these on your feet today, that was their original intent, so pair them with basketball shorts and a T-shirt for a relaxed vibe.
