Sneakers Release – Reebok Answer IV “Stepover” Launching 6/4

It is Game 1 of the 2001 NBA Finals. Allen Iverson has the ball in the corner, and his team is up by single digits in overtime. What does he do? He outmaneuvers Ty Lue to nail a jump shot. After sinking the shot with ease, he casually steps over a defeated Lue to make a powerful statement.

Naturally, the move became an iconic part of basketball history — so iconic that the Reebok Answer 4 shoes he was wearing became known as the “Step Over” colorway. Since it’s almost the 20th anniversary of the legendary shot and follow-through, Reebok is bringing back this OG sneaker to celebrate.

The “Step Over” Answer 4 is hitting stores on June 4 in men’s sizes. It hasn’t been available since 2017, when a limited number of units were released for Lapstone & Hammer stores. Who knows when the iconic colorway will be available again, so now’s your chance to take your shot at copping this must-have sneaker.

Even if this shoe weren’t associated with such an epic moment in time, it’s still impressive on its own merits. A premium white leather upper features a mix of white and black that melds into a black midsole and outsole. The traditional “I3” logo stands out in reflective white along the side.

One of the coolest parts of this shoe is the hidden lace closure obscured by a zip-up shroud. It’s a detail that’s not around too much anymore, which further showcases this shoe’s retro vibe. And don’t worry — the zipper isn’t going anywhere thanks to the velcro strap, an addition requested by Iverson after he noticed the zipper falling during intense game moments.

Beneath the DMX foam cushioning in the midsole (which certainly gave Iverson a soft landing after coming down from the aforementioned jump shot), Iverson adds a bit of his personality into the outsole. You’ll see his face imprinted in the heel, surrounded by the words “Only the Strong Survive.”
