When Nike debuted the Pegasus shoe in 1983, they intended to create a shoe so every runner could run like they had wind beneath their (proverbial) wings. Over the decades, Nike has retooled the classic model, adapting it to meet the increased demands of running.
The 38th iteration of this performance running shoe drops just in time for summer. The Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 38 will be available in two new colorways for men and women beginning June 3. A black, Anthracite, Volt and white shoe is available in men’s and women’s sizes, and a white, Metallic Silver and black version will release in women’s sizes.
The Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 38 retains much of the flavor of the Pegasus 37, but with a few key differences. A wider toe box gives a bit more room for the foot during running, while the midfoot webbing and lacing system provides a snug fit in the forefoot.
The lighter-weight, more breathable mesh upper rides atop a thick, curved midsole, mimicking the muscular form of a winged pegasus. In the case of the black, Anthracite, Volt and white Pegasus, the shoe comes dressed in an all-black upper with a prominent white Swoosh outlined on the lateral side and a smaller Swoosh adorning the medial.
Soft Nike React foam composes the midsole, aerodynamically swooping around the foot. The powerful combination of React and an Air Zoom unit works to give you maximum energy return run after run. Additional padding comes into play at the elongated tongue to give the top of your foot enhanced comfort.
A peek of the Volt color is visible along the shoe’s insoles. Flip the shoe over, and you’ll see a strategically placed traction pattern — a waffle-like outsole on one side reminiscent of the original Nike sole designs and flexed grooves on the medial side’s high-wearing area.
