Sunny Season Outdoor Activities for Kids

May 7, 2021

This year, warmer weather is hitting just a little different, whether it is because last spring outdoor activities were limited (and pretty bland) or the school year is finally coming to a close. Whatever the case, this season feels brighter and full of infinite possibilities to have fun and turn up your style. Not sure where to start? Here’s a quick lineup of outdoor activities for you and your kids to enjoy this sunny season!

Family Fun First

Nothing compares to creating family memories, that’s why this spring and summer instead of sending your littles out to play on their own, go with them. Let them show you how those new basketball shoes they got for Christmas help them play H-O-R-S-E, and then amaze them with the Jordan or LeBron skills you mastered back in the day! From playing knock-out in the driveway and capture the flag in the backyard to kickball at the park, lace up your sneakers and show your kids that mom and dad still got game.

If you don’t want to crush them too hard on the court, doing something more relaxing like taking a hike, a family bike ride or throwing a fun sundae Sunday party are all great memory-making activities to try, too. Then grab a chair and spend some time listening to your babies tell you how today was the best day EVER.

Wet N Wild

Do you have a yard and a hose? Then you have the building blocks for all sorts of outdoor water activities. From easily creating a sprinkler out of a spigot to showing them the “fun” they can have washing your car, the only thing they’ll be missing is a Hurley, Nike or Dolfin swimsuit.

No water hose? No problem! Drop a few waterproof toys in a water-filled plastic shoebox and stick it in the freezer. Your little archeologist will have a blast finding all sorts of treasure. If the popsicles are taking up too much space in the freezer for that option, send your wild ones outside to play in the rain, for a good old water fight with water balloons or a bucket full of water and water bomb soakers. Either way, outfitted in Hibbett’s swim selection or our little kid sets, your kiddos will have a blast.

Springtime DIYs

Martha Stewart and Johnathan Scott all got their start somewhere, why not let your little contractor get their hands dirty by slipping on a pair of Crocs and a hat to go out and create a little home garden, or for something a little more mystical, a fairy garden?!

If they are bursting with creativity, but aren’t into minor construction, get them a brush and let them paint. Grab a muffin tin, cornstarch, water and food coloring to create the perfect sidewalk chalk paint. They can also turn a plain ‘ole rock into a masterpiece by simply painting it like your kids’ favorite critters like ladybugs, bumblebees, frogs and more. Outfit them in a pair of pants or leggings and one of your old shirts and let their creativity run wild.

Outdoor Friend Fun

It’s time to ditch Facetime and Duo and start meeting with friends face-to-face. This spring and summer, send your kiddos outside with their friends for picnics or to start their own Fortune 500 company by way of a lemonade stand. Put them in their best Under Armour outfit and get them to turn on that megawatt smile you love.

If they don’t want to start growing their fortune now, they can still get out and have fun. Tell them to throw on a pair of Nikes or adidas to play parachute or go on a nature scavenger hunt. And hey, the outdoor friend fun isn’t only for the kids, you can get out there with them too. Head to the drive-in movies for a night under the stars, hit the zoo or hang at home with a backyard bonfire.
