Lightweight cushioning is the name of the game in performance footwear. 40 years ago Nike pioneered Nike Air Cushioning by asking “what’s lighter than air?”. The Nike Tailwind debuted in 1979 and Nike Air has been booming ever since. In 1987 Legendary shoe designer Tinker Hatfield created Max Air by cutting a hole in the side of an Air Max shoe giving consumers their first look at Nike’s innovative technology. Today, the Air Max 270 combines hints and throwbacks to legendary Nike models including the original 1987 Air Max 1.
